New Year. New Goals.

Welcome to 2012. Feels like late March or early April. I like to think there are less than five months til the swim club opens and Lori and I can switch off to a zone defense coverage like "Cover Three" instead of one on one.

With the pleasant weather the last few weeks, my training has been improving. Not that the consistency was not there, the intensity and focus was lacking. Thinking I'd have three plus months of the arctic chill to deal with, I've enjoyed getting on the trails at Rotary Park, Cass Benton and the few closed golf courses in the area. If you've been fortunate to see Moose and I on a run, we both appreciate your support, wave and not driving at us if we're on the road. Two weeks ago, I had an older lady follow us for a block plus. She saw us turning a corner and determined Moose would not be able to keep up, decided to follow us for a block or so. Surprise to her, he'd already covered four plus miles and would end up with just over seven for the run, all at sub 730 mpm pace. While Moose was enjoying his post run bath, snack and nap, I've begun planning my return to competition on the roads and trails for 2012. With the USA Olympic Marathon Trials this weekend in Houston, I've given a few minutes to reflect back on my career, where I've been, what I've accomplished and what could have been. We learn from our experience, from our failures and from our efforts. Where one road or trail ends, another begins. If one does not seem as clear as the other, perhaps now is the time to choose the one less traveled and create your own. Run Happy. Live Healthy.
