Those of you who are fans of the Allman Brothers Band will be familiar with the lyrics;
Everybody wants to know where Jimmy has gone, He left town I doubt if he's coming back home
Well Tony got a job, three kids and a lovely wife, Working in the commerce bank for the rest of his life
Nobody left to run with anymore, Nobody left to do the crazy things we used to do before, Nobody left to run with anymore.
Ever get this feeling when it's time to head out the door for your workout, walk or run? Knowing your usual workout buddy or partner can't make it, or worse yet has decided after a few sessions, this is not for them?
Where does this leave you, especially if your a newbie to this activity, sport or working out?
Motivation is a huge contributor to getting out the door when it's cold, wet, hot, humid, projects at work or home looming, daily stresses, whatever the case may be. Going it alone, or I tell those I coach and have coached (OYO) On Your Own, is not much fun day after day, week after week, mile or minute after mile or minute.
Get a few others to join your session or join up with a larger group who you know will have several others on a consistent basis. This makes the workout much more enjoyable, will challenge yourself a bit more as their will always be varying degrees of fitness amongst those in the group. Don't get discouraged, your level of fitness is temporary, it can and will always improve, just need to be consistent.
As these late fall days become shorter, darker, colder and your motivation may be falling quicker than leaves from the tree, make some calls, use your email and motivate each other to get out and share a laugh, a tear, a smile.
Get out and Run. Walk. Live.
