As the holiday hub bub begins to ramp up, finding the time to keep your walking and running program going can be even more challenging. The decreased day light hours and soggy streets and sidewalks from rain, snow, slush or any combination thereof and another challenge. Instead of stressing to head out the door and get your usual miles in, relax and just go by time and effort. Start of slower than usual and let the walk or run come to you. If after 10-15 minutes, you're just not feeling it, head back home. You've still completed 20-30 minutes of activity! Your walking and running should not be something to stress over and cross off your list.
Enjoy the cold, crisp weather, even the sunshine which seems to go on hiatus for three or four months this time of year. Plan a walk of run with your family members for one or two evenings a week and enjoy the festive lights and decorations. Don't worry if the pace is slower or faster or if you're covering more neighborhoods and distance than previous. Venture into the communities of Northville, Plymouth or Rochester Hills and enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee after. Enjoy the time together, your health and fitness and the holiday spirit.
